Brazilian dentistry has stood out as a global reference, thanks to its excellence in professional training, technological advances and constant innovation.
With Brazilian Dentist Day being celebrated on October 25, CPMH created this article in which it pays tribute to these professionals who take Brazil’s name to a global level in oral health care.
Innovation and Cutting-Edge Education
Brazil is recognized for having some of the best dental schools in the world. According to the QS World University Rankings, the School of Dentistry of the University of São Paulo (USP) and the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) are consistently among the top 10 dental institutions globally. In addition, Brazil is the country with the second largest number of dentists in the world, representing approximately 19% of the global workforce in the field, with more than 330,000 professionals registered with the Federal Council of Dentistry (CFO). These figures are indicative of the country’s commitment to large-scale dental training and practice.
Leadership in Research and Technology
Brazilian dentistry is also an example of innovation. Brazil is among the largest producers of scientific research in dentistry, accounting for 10% of the world’s dental publications. This volume of research reflects the country’s continuous technological advancement, with emphasis on areas such as digital dentistry and the use of 3D printing in prosthetics and dental implants. Brazilian companies, such as Neodent, are global leaders in dental implants, exporting technology to more than 60 countries. This reflects Brazil’s ability to develop innovative dental solutions that compete with industry giants.
Accessibility and Global Reach
Brazil also stands out for its accessibility to dental treatments. The Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) offers free dental services, which contributes to increasing the population’s access to such treatment. Furthermore, Brazil is one of the largest destinations for dental tourism, with international patients seeking quality treatments at significantly lower costs. It is estimated that health tourism in Brazil generates more than US$ 1 billion annually, and dentistry has a significant share of this market.
International Recognition
The excellence of Brazilian dentists is also recognized internationally. Professionals from Brazil are frequently invited to speak and participate in dental events around the world. In addition, many Brazilian dentists work abroad, taking their expertise to renowned clinics and universities in several countries. In 2015, the Journal of Dental Research ranked Brazil as the second country that contributes most to dental science, behind only the United States.
A Tribute to Dental Professionals
On this Brazilian Dentist’s Day, it is essential to recognize the tireless work of dentists who, with their talent and dedication, not only improve the oral health of millions of Brazilians, but also elevate Brazil’s name on the world stage. Congratulations to all Brazilian dentists
